A 40-Foot Tower Made of Living Fungus Bricks
In the courtyard of MoMA’s contemporary art space, PS1, a cylindrical tower soars 40 feet into the air. The twisted brick chimney looks like it’s made from bricks, and it is. Only these bricks aren’t cast in clay—they’re made from a combination of chopped up corn stalks and mycelium, the root of fungus.
